Tell Clark to get out the tree and set out some festive cookies because this month's Member of the Month is ready for the holidays! While she didn't exactly end up in the career field she thought she would (ahem, Connie?), she is a wonderful supporter of all and great listener to those that need an ear. To get to know her better, read more below about the kind-hearted and winter-wonderland loving, Miranda Filamini.
Hometown: Owensboro, KY
How long have you lived in Louisville? I came to Louisville for graduate school in 2014. My husband and I moved away for a couple of years but returned in 2017 and have been here ever since.
Tell us about your family: I have been married to my wonderful husband Nick for 5 years. We have two precious daughters, Lucy (2.5) and Audrey (8 months). Our family wouldn’t be complete without our 5 year old black lab mix, Rosie.
Current/Previous career: I am a mental health therapist specializing in marriage/couples therapy.
What did you want to be “when you grow up”? I very specifically wanted to be “a hair cutter named Connie.” Neither of those dreams came true.
What is the furthest you have been away from home? We honeymooned all throughout Italy in 2019. Every moment was incredible.
What is your favorite thing to do? I love to grab a “road coffee” from a nearby shop and take it on a drive or a walk around my neighborhood. I also love reading a suspenseful mystery novel before bed.
What is something about you that someone may not know? I trained in classical ballet, tap, and jazz dance from age 3 through college.
What is your favorite local restaurant to eat at? What is your go to order? My husband and I love Kashmir in the Highlands for Indian food. I always get the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan.
What is the best thing about living in Louisville? I love that Louisville is a city with so many great food and entertainment options, yet it is still easy to drive and park anywhere. It is the best of both worlds.
What is your favorite color? I am becoming a fan of green.
What is your favorite song or artist? I am a big Taylor Swift fan (like so many others right now).
What TV shows are you currently watching? My husband and I make a ritual of catching Great British Baking Show on Friday nights, and my solo guilty pleasure is Married at First Sight. I also just finished recent seasons of The Morning Show and Yellowjackets and really enjoyed all the suspense in those.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us or what is your pet peeve? I have a passion for grammar, so it does drive me crazy to see errors on a professional website or correspondence.
If someone had to describe you in one word, what would it be and why? Supportive. I try to organize my career and my relationships around helping others be the best, most fulfilled versions of themselves.
How did you find FIT4MOM Louisville? My friend Linsey Reed had her second baby just a couple of days after I had my first. She turned me onto Stroller Strides and then a round of Body Well shortly after!
How has FIT4MOM Louisville changed your life? Fit4Mom has given me multiple hours a week in which I can connect with my own mind and body. Between my job as a caregiver and my role as a mother, these opportunities to show up for myself are invaluable.
What was the first class that you attended? What was the last class that you attended? My first class was Carlee’s Stroller Strides class in Seneca Park in fall 2021. Currently I’m doing the Body Well Mini at KIP so I am there most mornings.
What is your favorite workout move or class layout? What workout move or class layout makes you feel strong? I love the 360 class. I feel so strong when I bust out some agility and strength moves after pushing myself breathless with a run.
December questions:
Best holiday tradition your family does? It’s very simple, but I do love making a cozy evening out of decorating our tree.
Tastiest holiday treat? I love any and all cookies, but they really do taste better when they are decorated for Christmas!
- Favorite holiday movie? I love National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation as a classic but recently fell in love with Klaus on Netflix. I appreciate how it blends the magic of Christmas with the reality of the commercial side of the holiday.
- Are you hoping for a winter wonderland (lots of snow) or warmer temps? In my ideal world we would get a winter wonderland before Christmas and then it would quickly warm up in January!
