Mom of the Month - Katye Smith

Meet Katye, our Mom of the Month! Katye is mommy to Finnlye and wifey to Cory. She is also one of our Crestwood BOOST instructors! Check out her classes on Thursday evenings at 7pm at Crestwood Christian Church. On top of being a busy mom, wife and fitness instructor, Katye works full time as a Nurse Practitioner. She is also a regular at our evening and weekend Strides classes! Katye, how do you do it all? You are such a strong, determined Mama! We are SO lucky to have you as a part of our village AND a part of our team!

Hometown: Russellville, KY

Tell us about your family... Hi, I'm Katye! Born and raised in small town KY I went to UK for college where I met my husband of 5 years, Cory. We moved to Louisville in 2012 and currently live in Crestwood. Our lives were completely changed and are filled with so much joy after having our daughter, Finnlye who will be 2 in August.

Current/Previous Career: I work full time as a Nurse Practitioner specializing in Bariatric surgery at Baptist.

What was your childhood ambition? I wanted to be a professional ballerina, doctor and teacher all at the same time!

What does motherhood mean to you? Motherhood for me is learning to stop and enjoy the small things in the midst of chaos, letting go of A LOT and trying to maintain balance! Who would have thought such a small thing brought so many responsibilities and consumed so much time and energy but she brings more happiness and silliness than I could have ever imagined.

What is the furthest you have been away from home? Egypt

How did you find FIT4MOM? My amazing neighbor Heidi Hargis brought me information about Fit4Baby when I very first moved into my house (I was SO pregnant). I thought, why not and never looked back!

How has FIT4MOM changed your life? I cannot say enough good things about how Fit4Mom and this village have changed my life since becoming a mom (so I will try to keep it short!). I was feeling so discouraged physically, mentally and emotionally when I decided to do Body Back about a year after having my daughter. I hadn't taken care of myself at all since having her and everything was work, baby, home life (more work!) on repeat. Then I started BB and I realized it was OK to take time for myself, to take care of myself. My child and husband would survive without me around a few hours a week and I believe I actually became a better mom and wife because I was "filling up my cup to pour out into them". I made connections with other women who were experiencing the same thing which helps you just feel better about it all.

Favorite Exercise: plank anything

Proudest Moment: The day I successfully completed breastfeeding/pumping exclusively while working full time after 15 months

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us: I have never had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and no I do not want to try one :)

Quick 5 from Finnlye (21 months old):

  • How old is mommy? 1
  • What is something mom always says to you? Daddy
  • What is mom really good at? Beach
  • What is mom's favorite thing to do? Daddy (yes, she said this but she also just said random words to my questions!)
