Mom of the Month - Christine Cobbs

I am honored to introduce the village to Mom of the Month, Christine Cobbs!

When I found Fit4Mom last year, I knew that this new journey was something that I needed Christine’s support on but also knew that this journey would be better if she was along for the ride. Thelma and Louise-style, she agreed to come to Bring-A-Friend Week during Fall Body Well, and she’s never looked back. Christine has since completed Winter Body Well, Spring Break Mini, and is ready to rock Body Well Pro.

Much of her success with the Fit4Mom programs can be attributed to her personality and skill sets. When Christine decides she’s going to do something, she goes hard. And there is nobody I know that prepares the recipes in the nutrition guide as deliciously as Christine does.

So as an ode to her culinary background, allow me to share the recipe that is Fit4Mom Lou’s April Mom of the Month:

Start with generosity. Add a dash of kindness, a pinch of patience, and heap of understanding. Season from the heart. Apply laughter liberally. Note: pairs well with a few Old Fashioneds.

  • Hometown: Louisville

  • Tell us about your family: I grew up the youngest of 4 and the only one born in America- the rest of my siblings were born in the Philippines. I have been with my husband, Ben since 2003, married in 2013. We have two boys, Silas (5) & Oliver (2) that always keep us on our toes!

  • Current/Previous career: I have worked at UofL hospital since 2013. Started in the ED as a secretary & CNA and worked on a trauma/stroke floor as a bedside RN, then case manager and now I am a utilization review RN.

  • What was your childhood ambition? When I was little, they called me the little mayor of our neighborhood and I told all our neighbors that I wanted to be a lawyer for elderly people.

  • What does motherhood mean to you? To me, it is the greatest and most fulfilling challenge I’ve faced. It’s not always easy, but I learn so much everyday. It’s about putting their well-being and happiness ahead of my own and doing the right thing even when I’m not sure what that is! Above all it’s about loving with my whole heart and making them feel safe and happy.

  • What is the furthest you have been away from home? My parents took me to the Philippines when I was younger, but most recently my husband and I went to Vienna, Austria in 2017.

  • What is your favorite thing to do as a family? We love going to Louisville City FC games! But we also love going on “adventures” (walks) in our neighborhood or Cherokee Park.

  • What is something about you that someone may not know? Nursing is actually my second career, I was a cook for 10 years. Cooking/baking is my love language. I still do cakes, cookies, and macarons on the side for friends and family. There are people who I’ve made wedding cakes for that still come to me for their kid’s birthday cakes each year. I love any excuse for a dinner party!

  • You have some extra time - what’s your favorite hobby? Reading or crocheting

  • What is your favorite color? Red

  • What is your favorite song or artist? Adele or Jack Johnson

  • What TV shows are you currently watching? Ozark & Schitt’s Creek

  • Proudest moment: Bringing my babies into this world! The moment when I first saw & held them was indescribable. Especially seeing Ben as a new dad.

  • Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us: I was an outside hitter in volleyball my senior year of high school. (I’m 4’11”)

  • How did you find FIT4MOM? My bff Melanie Parker brought me to an 80s night bring-a-friend class last fall.

  • How has FIT4MOM changed your life? It’s brought me back into society and given me a sense of community. I’ve met some great women and reconnected with some I haven’t seen in a long time. It’s also given me a chance to make myself a priority again after having kids.

  • Favorite exercise: tabata workouts

  • Favorite virtual class: cardio express!

April questions:

  • Best location for Spring Break? San Diego, locally- Red River Gorge

  • April Fool’s Day - what is the best prank you’ve either played or had played on you? My husband was eating what I thought was the last bit of my favorite Graeter’s seasonal ice cream- mint cookies & cream and gave me a bite and it ended up being cheesy grits!

  • Favorite spring flower? Peonies or tulips

  • F4M class that you’re looking forward to being outside? Any of them! I’ve mostly done virtual aside from Body Well

Quick 5: Ask your kiddo(s) these questions:

  • How old is mommy? 18
