Mom of the Month - Carrie Nance

Meet Carrie, our Mom of the Month! Carrie is wife to Todd and mom to Everett (2). She is an Insurance Advisor who is part of an all-woman team at Sterling Thompson Company. Carrie began her time with F4MLou just last year with a round of Body Well. Since then she has quickly become a familiar and friendly face to many. When she’s not crushing a session of Body Well you might find Carrie continuing her wellness journey in Well Between, going the extra distance at Run Club and always showing up at a variety of classes! If you haven’t met Carrie yet, you’ll know when you do, because her genuine spirit of encouragement and care can be felt wherever she goes.

Hear what her Body Well Coach has to say about her...

"Carrie is the image of Body Well. She is what the program is all about. Not only has she crushed 4 sessions with me, but she has also taken the time to gain knowledge about this healthy lifestyle and what works for her. She has truly transformed since we first met last summer and I am so grateful to have gotten to be a part of her journey. Her spirit is so infectious. She always lights up a room and brings warmth into the space. She is simply a girl on fire." ~ Elizabeth Steinert, Body Well Coach

Carrie, we are lucky to know you and are grateful you’re here. Thank you for choosing to be part of this special village!

Hometown: Owensboro, KY

Tell us about your family. Married to Todd for seven years and momma to Everett, who is 2 years old.

Current/Previous career. Sterling Thompson Company’s Personal Insurance Advisor. I’m part of an all-woman team where I offer guidance to a wide variety of clients, but I have specific expertise in assessing the personal insurance needs of successful individuals and families.

What was your childhood ambition? Mermaid.

What does motherhood mean to you? In my current chapter of motherhood, it means being protective but also preparing Everett (aka “E”) for the world. I’m innately protective of those I love and care about, but I’m working on letting my son explore and grow. I catch myself being a helicopter mom sometimes and remind myself to pump my brakes. I want him to explore and play hard, but my heart stops every time he falls or stands up in the bath tub… Ha! At the end of the day, as long as Everett knows I love him unconditionally, I know I’m doing a good job.

What is the furthest you have been away from home? I studied abroad in Italy while in college.

How did you find FIT4MOM? Lauren Rager has been a colleague and friend of my husband for more than 10 years. She had gently mentioned Fit4Mom a few times in the past to me, never pressuring but letting me know how special of a group it was. Fit4Mom, or any type of exercise group, wasn’t something I thought would be my cup of tea, honestly. I had never enjoyed working out and the thought of running for fun like my husband does seemed wild to me. Long story short, years went by and I was venting to Allie Wood while she was working hard to make my grey hairs disappear at her salon. I was telling her about how working remotely for so many months had just made me feel lethargic and I wanted to make a change. Allie reminded me of Fit4Mom and that a summer session of Body Well was about to start up. After asking both Lauren and Allie a million questions, I signed up within 24 hours for Elizabeth’s evening BW group. I will ALWAYS be forever grateful for Lauren never giving up on me, and Allie pushing me to go outside of my comfort zone.

How has FIT4MOM changed your life? Two words: Body Well. If this amazing program doesn’t change you, I don’t know what will. It has truly spun me around 180. Not only have I lost 70 pounds in less than a year, I enjoy working out and learning what is healthy for my body both mentally and physically. I constantly learn from my instructors and other members equally. Fit4Mom has taught me a lot of life lessons that are great reminders. For example, it is okay to take care of yourself and it’s not a sign of weakness to ask for help. Strength truly comes when you fall down and try again, and small wins are wins. I am incredibly proud to be a part of this special village, I love that we empower each other day after day, it’s rare and treasured. For those of you are new to Fit4Mom and its doesn’t seem to be clicking or your having a rough week…this is me saying reach out. Message me! This group of women won’t give up on you and we are here to see you succeed in your personal wellness journey. For those of you who have given me advice, corrected my form in class, encouraged me or even slowed down to run with me in a travel class THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Favorite exercise. Hip bridge skull crusher.

Proudest moment. I’m very fortunate to work for a local company that values its team, and as I grow into more of a leadership position at Sterling Thompson Company, I have made it a mission to improve our maternity leave program. As a mother in a male dominated industry, it’s become imperative to me to make my place of work a leader in Louisville by giving new mothers more support, time off and pay. I’m proud to be making changes with the current team and future families.

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us. I love old Westerns! If John Wayne or Clint Eastwood is in it, I’ve seen it.

Favorite virtual class. Strength and Core, but I also love any themed/holiday class such as our date nights, Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. They just set such a positive tone for the day.

Quick 5 with Everett...

How old is mommy? Two.

What is something mom always says to you? Kisses.

What is mom really good at? Cars.

What is mom’s favorite thing to do? Park.

What makes you proud of your mom? Red car.
