Meet Amanda, our Mom of the Month! Amanda is wife to Leigh and mom to Lorenzo (6), Rocco (5), and Eloise (2). Amanda works as a Government Property Contractor with BAE Systems, Inc. while also keeping up with rental properties that she and Leigh own. She has been part of F4MLOU since 2020 and has participated in Boost, 360, virtual classes, Run Club, Well Between, multiple rounds of Body Well and Body Well Minis.
Amanda has a unique ability to energize those around her not only during, but outside of classes too! Her passion for her community and her people runs deep and is evidenced by her love for OldLou. We are so fortunate to feel this love in our Village too!
Amanda, thank you for being part of our village. We are grateful you are here!
Hometown. Louisville, KY (and I also claim Jeffersonville, IN)
Tell us about your family. I’ve been married 7 years to Leigh LaViolette and we have 3 children: Lorenzo (6), Rocco (5), and Eloise (2). We live in Old Louisville.
Current/Previous career. Currently I am a Government Property Contractor with BAE Systems, Inc. where I work at what Louisville locals dub as the ‘Old Naval Ordnance Station’. My spouse and I also own several rental properties in Southern IN and Old Louisville. Previous career involved linguistics and all-source military intelligence where my passion lies. I have a Master’s in Humanities with a Concentration in Linguistics and a Bachelor’s in Cross-Linguistics.
How did you find FIT4MOM? Bonnie Logsdon! She invited me to join her during bring a friend to Body Well week. It was July 2020 at Seneca Park and Natalie Robertson was the instructor. I have never looked back since my first 530am class. Y’all are stuck with me now. Sorry not sorry.
How has FIT4MOM changed your life? I know myself better in this current stage of my life. I embrace the twists and turns that life throws at my family and me and I radically accept change at a moment’s notice. Not to mention being around other people who feel the same is quite humbling and empowering. To have so many people in your corner never doubting your abilities is invaluable. I adore this community with my entire heart.
What does motherhood mean to you? It means everything is amplified: worrying, planning, teaching, celebrating, and loving unconditionally. Being a parent has been the most challenging thing I have ever done in my life but I wouldn’t trade it and I’d be lost without it.
Favorite exercise? A good ol’ fashioned SPRINT baby! Oh and push-ups, too. Ask me about proper push-up form anytime. ;-)
Favorite virtual class. LI50. It’s so crucial and so beneficial to slow things down sometimes and to focus on our transverse abdominis muscles as well as our pelvic floor muscles.
Proudest moment? I’ll never forget returning from my last night training exercise knowing that I completed all events and was finally called a soldier for the first time in my life. I graduated from Army Basic Combat Training at age 17. (My parents had to sign a waiver since I wasn’t 18 yet. I did Basic Training between my Junior and Senior year of high school.)
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us. I learned Pig Latin when I was around 8 years old. My mom and my aunts would speak it in front of me as a way to conceal adult conversations around young ears. Once I cracked the code, my cousins and my best friends and I growing up would speak Pig Latin to each other for days at a time. Flash forward to my 20s, it would come in handy speaking Pig Latin in bars and clubs. Then later I would speak Pig Latin in other languages. It works in ANY language since it’s universal. “alkTay oTay eMay in igPay atinLay extNay imeTay ouYay eeSay eMay!”
What is the furthest you have been away from home? Southern Iraq/Iran border.
Quick 5 with the littles:
1. How old is mommy? Enzo: 32 / Rocco: 36
2. What is something mom always says to you? Both Enzo & Rocco in unison: Clean up your room!
3. What is mom really good at? Both Enzo & Rocco: working
4. What is mom’s favorite thing to do? Enzo: work out with other mommies / Rocco: Play Mario Kart with me
5. What makes you proud of your mom? Enzo: Great job at working / Rocco: always winning in Mario kart
Honorable mention to Eloise who is 2 trying to answer these questions who kept saying mommy and yay yay yay! She’s my smallest yet biggest cheerleader.
